The world of chupitos
Hanging out with your friends, a special occasion or a holiday, there are a thousand and one reason to take a shot. Today we tell you the history of chupitos and the most popular shots.
Shots, an ally of the young consisting of just 30ml, a liquid that can make or break a night out.
The reason alcohol started being consumed in such small quantities was as a result of the introduction of the Dry Law in the United States. This law prohibited the manufacture, transport and sale of alcoholic products between 1920 and 1922 throughout the country. After the establishment of the law, illegal premises arose where liquors called speakeasy were sold. These were to be drunk very quickly and in very small glasses to avoid being caught by the police in case they broke into the premises.
That is how this tradition came about. There are many who have a whole ritual around them. There are bars where the selection of shots is very extensive and each of them is taken in a different way. Some of the most well-known are:
- Tequila: served with a piece of lemon and a saltshaker. You lick the back of your hand and then pour salt on the moist area, lick the salt off, take your shot and bite or suck on the piece of lemon.
- Flambéed: like the cockroach.
The contents are set on fire and you must drink it with a straw while it's still on fire. This shot can't be drunk in full, because you can burn.
- Brain: it consists of red vodka and Baileys, which when mixed creates a shape, which gives the name to the shot.
-Traffic light: in the same glass are mixed three drinks of different densities, which causes three layers to be left that simulate that, a traffic light.
It is usually composed of grenadine, Gran Marnier and cream liqueur.
- Jagerbomb: A shot of Jager is inserted into a glass of an energy drink, usually Red Bull. At the time of drinking the glass, the Jager is mixed with the energy drink and that is when that flavor "bomb" is produced.
- Strawberry cream with tequila: for those who hate tequila now have a nicer alternative.
This Vulture strawberry tequila is also known as petit-suisse, as its strawberry flavor covers the tequila base.
- Absenta: this drink of French and Swedish origin has a graduation of more than 65 degrees and is composed of wormwood, fennel and anise. This drink is banned in many areas and is certainly for the most daring.
- The classics: and without a doubt the most classic and traditional.
