The San Fermín Party

In Spain one of the most famous festivals is held every July called San Fermín festival. Every year from the 6th to the 14th of July the city of Pamplona puts on the characteristic red scarf to enjoy one of the 7 most famous parties in the world. For 9 days the party is uninterrupted throughout the city. There is something for everyone including your mother, your children or with simply with your friends. So many activities to take part in.

The festivities of San Fermín are held every year in honor of the Catholic saint San Fermin, on the 7th of July there is a procession in the old town and every day “the runners” sing to the saint of San Fermín, to honour him.

Running with the bulls is one of the most famous acts during this “fiesta” but it is always barricaded so that it stays safe. The Spanish estates and brands like “kukuxumusu” are responsible for making sure it stays fun and that the bulls and runners stay within the barricaded area and on the right track, so that people can enjoy the festivities without any danger.

Something that few people know about this party is the actual meaning of the famous red scarf tied around the neck. It is tradition that before the start of the fiesta the famous txupinazo cannot be worn on the neck, because of this you see people with the handkerchief on their wrist. Once the rocket has been launched everyone shouts in unison "Viva San Fermin" then they raise the handkerchief, just at that moment all the pamplons will show off the characteristic scarf on their neck.

The festivities of San Fermín are one of those things that should be enjoyed in person at least once in a lifetime, but do not forget that the city of Pamplona does not become a place without law where anything goes! You should always enjoy the party while being respectful.
