We have many recommendations for tourists that are visiting Valencia, today we recommend you the Marqués de Dos Aguas Palace. A Gothic-style palace owned by the Rabassa de Perellós, who acquired the title of ‘Marquesado de Dos Aguas’ in 1699, granted to them by Carlos II.
The palace has definitely undergone some alterations during its time, most of all the ornamental elements. These renovations include the Alabaster door, the return of the noble staircase and the floating Nymphs, with a decoration of overflowing voluptuousness. In this palace you can find two descending water flows, named after the Marquises who lived there.
In a later renovation, the damp-damaged paintings were replaced by stuccoes with gray and pink tones, so as to imitate the marble. French-style balconies with wavy railings were also made back then. The entire renovation can be clearly seen on the ground floor where the rooms around the internal courtyard were reorganised.
In 1914 it was declared a historical-artistic monument, and eight years later it was purchased by the State, so that the building could host the ceramic collection donated by Manuel González Martí. The museum was opened in 1954, and since then various renovations have taken place to restore the building, improve its infrastructure and renovate some areas. In 1998 it was finally completely renovated and opened its doors to the public.
Nowadays, the building can be visited and on the second floor you can find the Gozález Martí National Museum of Ceramics and Sanctuary Arts. On the ground floor you can still see the 18th century carriage and the 19th century halls with their original decoration. This palace is located in the historic center of Valencia, between the streets Poeta Querol, Calle de la Cultura and Calle de San Andrés. This area was destined for a Roman necropolis from the 1st to the 3rd centuries AD.
According to historians, the Valencia-based house of the Marquises de Dos Aguas was considered as the image of nobility and wealth because of its abundant decoration and its splendid interior, which has attracted the attention of all who come before it, and will continue to do so.
The visiting hours of this historical and architectural building are from 10am to 2pm and from 4pm to 8pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 2pm on Sundays and holidays.
