Sagunto, the millenary city

Within the Valencian Community lies Sagunto, a city with almost three millennia worth of history is enclosed in its streets, it is not difficult to get lost in some of Spain’s oldest history when seeing Sagunto’s castle, the amphitheatre and the Jewish quarter. However, apart from the history, Sagunto also encloses an exquisite and distinctive cuisine. Some examples are arroz a banda, olla amb fesols, naps and the famous rosquilles d’anís.

The city of Sagunto contains great historical sites along with exceptional cuisine and culture. All people who love to discover new, unique corners of the world that have a story to tell, should visit this city.



There are many interesting things to see here. Here is a list of the most important ones that shouldn’t be missed:

• The Castle. It is a fortress of nature, that reaches approximately one kilometre, the most mysterious thing about this castle is its variation of walls that surrounds it that have been built during different times and therefore with different styles The mixture of the styles is so great that in 1931 it was awarded as a National Monument.

• The Roman theatre. On the hill where the Castle is located, right on the slopes of the castle is the Roman theatre from the first century, it is a building that retains much of its original architecture, which is why it was also declared a National Monument. The size of it is surprising because it can accommodate exactly 8000 people.

• Port of Sagunto. Putting aside the historical areas of the city an essential place to visit is the port, also known as the core of the city. 



These are only three examples of all the places that can be visited in Sagunto, the truth is that the city does not leave anyone indifferent. Another fantastic way to spend your time in Sagunto would be during Holy Week since it dates to the end of the fifteenth century, with processions and ceremonies.
