Morella, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain

In the province of Castellón you will find one of the most beautiful towns in Spain: Morella. This small town has 2,500 inhabitants and has a really impressive castle looking over it. The entire town is surrounded by a wall that is 2km in length. King Jaume I even called this medieval gem “a place worthy of kings”.

Within the town itself are several interesting things to see. First of all we have to mention the medieval city, that is the entire old town as it is declared a Historic-Artistic place. Along the path that takes you through Morella’s old town, you will pass through places such as palaces, famous houses, like the 16th century Casa Piquer, the Casa del Consejo y los Estudios or the Casa Rovira, where legends say that San Vicente Ferrer himself worked the miracle of raising a child, which his mother offered as a sacrifice.

Another must-see is the Morella Castle, as it is one of the most impressive fortresses in the entire Mediterranean. It has seen many civilisations, battles and even an attempted conquest of Cid Campeador himself.
To access the Castle, you must first go to the Convento de San Francisco, a historic place where the meeting between Pope Luna, Fray Vicente Ferrer and King Fernando I of Aragón took place. They came together to provide a solution for the crisis in the Catholic Church at that time. They went to the convent first because the access to the castle is through the convent itself.

Finally, after visiting all the historical and relevant places in Morella, it is important to save your appetite to taste the excellent cuisine that this town offers. Among the most outstanding dishes are the Morellan croquettes with a triangular shape, the flaons, the sausage and of course the artisan sheep and goat cheeses.
