Guadalest castle
Within the Alicante province there is a town which is considered one of the most beautiful in the Alicante region: Guadalest. It is a town with a lot of charm and only 209 inhabitants. Its Muslim roots can be seen in the architecture on the streets and houses. Within the town the most beautiful tourist attractions are El Castell de Guadalest and the reservoir of the town itself.
The town of Guadalest is located in the Alicante region, and forms a valley between several famous mountain ranges: the Sierra de Xortà, Serrella, the Sierra de Aitana and the Bernia. This location makes the views from the town a delight for the eyes, since the town is on top of a mountain and thereby provides truly amazing views.
The Guadalest Castle is one of the most typical tourist attractions in this town. This castle, also known as Castillo de San José, is located on a large rock in the highest part of the town. So in order to get there you will need to wear appropriate footwear and you need to be willing to climb hills fearlessly. The castle dates back to the 11th century and was the base for Muslim troops, before the reconquest. An interesting fact about the castle and its current state, is knowing that over the years it has survived two earthquakes. This is why there are areas in the castle that are in poor condition, some even in ruins.
The next point of interest in the town is the reservoir. In order to see it you need to make your way up. This route is not difficult to walk so anyone can do it. The beauty of this reservoir resides in the contrast of vivid colours that it has, the intense turquoise of the water and vivid green tone of the nature that surrounds it. Together they make the landscape a work of art.
